Coil and Blaze
Two heavy black lines spiral through the canvas like coiled wire or smoke caught mid-twist, cutting across a dense field of tangerine, forest green, and crimson laid down in short, urgent strokes — nothing blended, nothing resting. The color underneath reads almost like fire seen through foliage, bright and consuming, while the black coils hold it in check, looping and crossing like something trying to contain what it’s wrapped around. Coil and Blaze is pure gesture over pure heat — the studio’s most purely physical piece yet, built from motion first and meaning second, the kind of painting that looks like it was made fast and close to the canvas.
